Phase III: Implementation

The Office of Engaged Learning will provide administrative support to implement all courses on the Engaged Learning Distribution List.

Orientation and Preparation

For Engaged Learning courses that require regular community volunteering or involvement, students must sign waivers, to be co-signed by course instructors, before participating in any service or project related activities with community partners. Waivers will be provided by the Office of Engaged Learning and completed on Canvas for each course. Instructors develop orientation materials or utilize existing campus resources to prepare students for engagement in the community. Some community partners may also require their own training or orientation for students prior to serving, including background checks when working with minors. 

The Office of Engaged Learning also provides resources to help students navigate transportation if your course has an off-site partnership.

Support for Course Implementation 

Any faculty member may request a trained Baylor Engage Fellow as an undergraduate peer instructor to assist in course management and implementation. For example, fellows can schedule and support students as they volunteer, recording student participation. Fellows can manage communication and project oversight with community partners. Please indicate on your course proposal that you are interested in having a fellow support your course.
