Phase I: Development
Each faculty member or department interested in developing a course for the Engaged Learning Core Distribution List must work through the three-phase Development-Submission-Implementation process. The Development process involves four initial steps.
-
Read the Engaged Learning Core Document, the Core Curriculum website, and the EL DL Course Development Proposal form, using these as your guide to brainstorm course ideas.
-
Obtain support from your department chair to begin developing a course for the Engaged Learning DL. This written statement need not be lengthy; a short statement indicating the chair is aware of and supports the proposal is sufficient. You will need to upload this statement of support along with your EL DL Course Development Proposal through our website.
-
Complete and submit EL DL Course Development Proposal.
-
Begin consultation with the OEL. The OEL team will reach out to you upon receipt of your proposal and begin a process to help you develop partnerships and pedagogy, as well as help you project implementation needs.
Faculty are also encouraged to submits proposals for Academy for Teaching and Learning grants and/or the College of Arts & Sciences Teaching Innovation Award to support Engaged Learning course development. We ask each person developing a course to be mindful of these opportunities and their corresponding deadlines.
