For Faculty Mentors
Welcome to Undergraduate Research in the Office of Engaged Learning!
Our Mission
We house a broad variety of undergraduate research programs that serve faculty and students of all disciplines. Undergraduate research programs in the OEL include both academic programs and grants and awards.
We are housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, but supported through the Office of the President and the Office of the Provost and here to serve undergraduate students from all majors.
Our mission is to facilitate dynamic opportunities for undergraduates in all disciplines to pursue faculty-guided research, equipping them to make new discoveries while strengthening critical, analytical, and writing abilities.
Goals and Objectives
- Our main goal is to serve as a central hub to gather and distribute resources and information to enhance undergraduate research opportunities across disciplines.
- Our objectives include ways to Get Started, Get Involved, and ways to Get Funded.
Get Started
Baylor has implemented ForagerOne, a first-of-its-kind research matching software platform, to facilitate connections between research faculty and aspiring undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral researchers.
- Please review and claim your profile.
- You have the option to indicate to students whether or not you are currently accepting applications for a research position.
- You may also post specific projects for students on the Projects page.
- It is easy to do and all the instructions can be found on the ForagerOne page.
Get Involved
The Office of Engaged Learning provides many opportunities for students and faculty mentors to get involved in research, including:
- Undergraduate research resources for faculty.
- Collaborating with others to guide students to maximize their education by learning beyond the classroom through summer internships and research experiences.
- Developing a "Baylor Engaged Portal" to house lists of internships and awards.
- Helping students recognize their potential to apply their expertise to improve the world for their neighbors, friends, families, communities, and the world at large through leadership programs.
- Sponsor events to showcase and celebrate student and faculty accomplishments and discoveries.
Major Events and Activities
- B-TRUE and other summer internships
- Providing venues for presentations, such as:
- Supporting Baylor Undergraduate Researchers in Science Technology (BURST)
- Recognizing mentors through the Annual Faculty Mentoring Awards
Get Funded
The Office of Engaged Learning provides funding for students and faculty through URSA Grants.
- There are 2 types of research grants for undergraduates that require a faculty mentor: URSA Project Grants and URSA Travel and Impact Grants.
- Faculty may apply for funding to develop and implement course-based research experiences (ALURE Grants).
Please let us know if you have a need or an idea for improving undergraduate research in your department. We would love to collaborate!
