URSA Grant Winner Aron Basurto: Bridging Bioethics and Healthcare

November 21, 2024

Aron Basurto, a standout senior in Medical Humanities and a Provost’s Scholar at Baylor University, has been recognized with an URSA Mini Research Grant for Fall 2024. Aron’s grant supports his collaboration with Dr. Devan Stahl, Associate Professor of Bioethics and Religion, on the 'Bioethics for the People' podcast. His project involves researching bioethics case studies, creating transcripts, and linking past episodes to contemporary healthcare topics. This initiative aims to educate a broader audience on bioethics.

At Baylor, Aron hopes to expand his bioethics work, develop public scholarship skills, and enhance his understanding of key bioethical issues through this research. His responsibilities also include assisting with the podcast’s production, where he is gaining experience in content planning, recording, and research. Aron’s future aspirations include a public health master’s degree in health policy, with a focus on community health and equity, ultimately aiming to work with USAID.

“My experience with the John J. Lynch Center for Ethics and my passion for service have shaped my desire to impact public health,” noted Aron. “I encourage other students to pursue interdisciplinary research, blending ethics, policy, and healthcare, and to explore bioethics as a vital field within the medical humanities.”
