A partnership between the Office of the Provost and the Office of Engaged Learning, the Provost’s Scholars program offers select undergraduate students in their final year of study an opportunity to work with university leadership in shaping Baylor's future.
Open to students in any program of study, Provost’s Scholars serve as the Provost's designated student working group, executing a charge from the university’s chief academic officer to recommend improvement in key strategic areas of the university. In so doing, Provost's Scholars also join the collaborative efforts of the Office of Engaged Learning to ensure that students who come behind them will have opportunities to pursue excellence at Baylor and beyond.
Provost's Scholars, identified through a highly selective process, have excelled in their scholarship, citizenship, ambassadorial, and leadership pursuits during their time at Baylor. They are students who have oriented their education and their lives toward the common good and are poised to continue doing so in their post-graduate endeavors. They are scholars with a deep concern for, and demonstrated commitment to, the flourishing of their neighbors, their communities, and society at large, having bridged classroom learning to the world beyond during their time at Baylor.
During their tenure in the program, Provost’s Scholars offer these experiences, and their emerging expertise, in service to the university, forging a lasting legacy as they help shape the institution for future generations of students. Being a Provost’s Scholar is thus an honor and a responsibility—a celebration of a student’s distinguished achievements and an opportunity to lead in enduring ways to the benefit of Baylor.
Previous cohorts of Provost’s Scholars have been instrumental in establishing Civil Discourse Week, driving expansion of ForagerOne and undergraduate research across the university, and innovating on global engagement initiatives.
The 2026-27 cohort has been charged by Interim Provost Dr. Lee Nordt to serve as a student-led advisory board on AI, answering a four-part question: What is a Baylor education for in the age of AI? What should we protect, change, and build in light of those purposes?
Applications for the 2027-28 cohort of Provost’s Scholars will open in March 2026.
