Goldwater Workshops & Deadlines 2021
This year’s Goldwater National Scholarship competition has begun. In 1986, Congress established the Goldwater Scholarship to identify and support college sophomores and juniors in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) who show exceptional promise of becoming the country’s next generation of research leaders. Baylor University is allowed to nominate 4 students to the national competition, plus a fifth slot specifically set aside for a transfer student. Last year, two Baylor students won the Goldwater Scholarship, one of whom was a transfer student. The Scholarship provides up to $7,500 per year, and the competition is open to sophomores and juniors. More information is available on the national website, where all applicants must register:
https://goldwaterscholarship.gov/
Because Baylor University can only nominate up to five students to the national competition, we will be having an internal application process to help us select those students. To assist students with the application process, three workshops will be held on the following dates and times. All workshops will be held in BSB C-230.
The workshops, hosted by Dr. Jeffrey Olafsen, the Baylor University Faculty Representative to the Goldwater Scholarship Competition, will include information about the application process, and it is highly encouraged that any student interested in applying for the Goldwater Scholarship should attend. Dr. Olafsen can be reached via email at Jeffrey_Olafsen@baylor.edu.
The internal deadline for all applications to be considered for the selection to the national competition is 5 pm on Monday, November 22, 2021. All application materials are handled through the national website above and starts with a pre-application that can be started today: https://goldwater.scholarsapply.org/
