Students in their second or third year are invited to become Baylor Engage Fellows, a community committed to integrating scholarship, citizenship, and leadership in pursuit of the common good. Guided and mentored by Baylor faculty and staff, Baylor Engage Fellows participate in the following:
PATHWAYS
Baylor Engage Fellows pursue a variety of research, ambassadorial, and civic endeavors. Research pathways might include “V9R” research classes, summer research experiences, public research presentations, submission of grant proposals, or preparing a manuscript for publication in an undergraduate or professional journal. Ambassadorial pathways might include proficiency in a modern language, studying abroad, pursuing the Global Engagement certificate, teaching English, or an international internship. Civic pathways might include serving as a teaching assistant for a Philanthropy and Public Service course, minoring in Poverty and Social Justice, completing the Baylor in Washington program, and sustaining, deepening, and advancing in service with a local nonprofit organization.
SEMINARS AND MENTORING
A twice-monthly OEL breakfast and mentoring from faculty, staff, and fellow students will provide Fellows with guidance, support, and community as they integrate scholarship, citizenship, and leadership and pursue the common good.
SUMMER FELLOWSHIP
Baylor Engage Fellows have priority access to summer funding that provides opportunities to integrate research, service, learning, and professional development through a summer internships. Baylor Summer Fellows reflect together on what they are learning, what they are doing, who they are becoming, and how they are impacting the world around them.
PORTOLIO
Over the course of their time in the program, Baylor Engage Fellows will document their engagement work and reflect on the integration of scholarship, citizenship, and leadership through their experiences and coursework.
As part of the Baylor Engage Fellows program, students will be expected to fully commit to the following efforts:
- Take PPS 2101 Community-Based Global Learning, and serve as an undergraduate teaching assistant for Engaged Learning courses in the fall and/or spring semester
- Attend twice-monthly seminars and events hosted by the Office of Engaged Learning
- Meet regularly with their Baylor Engage mentor and their OEL house community
- Create and maintain a portfolio documenting how they are integrating scholarship, citizenship, and leadership
- Apply for and pursue opportunities such as internships, fellowships, or research/study experiences locally or abroad during their time as a Fellow
