iBEARS Summer Internship
May - June 2024
The iBEARS (Inclusive Biologists Exploring Active Research with Students) program is sponsoring 2 to 3 undergraduate fellows who will teach a variety of science topics (Biology, Physical Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Mathematics) and conduct summer research in science education in an elementary school in Yucatan (Valladolid, Mexico).
iBEARS is an intensive 6-week summer teaching and research-training program for students pursuing teaching and research-related careers. The program is designed to provide a unique, in-depth research experience in science education. iBEARS will also prepare participants for top-quality graduate science education programs. iBEARS offers a summer stipend, is only for Baylor undergraduates, and is non-residential (i.e., does not offer housing).
iBEARS fellows will:
- Teach elementary students typically in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.
- Conduct independent research with outstanding training program faculty mentors.
- Work in a new area of science education incorporating teaching, science, Spanish, and technology.
- Gain exposure to research topics in both science and Spanish.
- Receive career counseling and develop career interests.
- Participate in workshops, seminars, and journal clubs.
- Build a social network with student peers and faculty across scientific disciplines.
- Receive a $2,000 stipend
